Designer Toddler Clothes – Create Your Own Using Easy Applique and Embellishment

When it comes to having stylish, one of-a-kind toddler clothes, it might seem that the only way to get these is by spending large amounts of money on designer items. However, by using techniques such as embellishment and appliqué, parents can create elaborate and unique toddler clothing which will rival any boutique clothing you can find.

The business of children products is one of the largest industries in the world, with thousands of companies providing various toys, clothing, bedding, educational products, etc for children. Often, manufacturing companies will draw from generic designers, and utilize large production runs of items. This is not all bad however as it tends to keep prices lower – a good thing in fact I hear you say! But it does result in many identical versions of toddler clothes being released to consumers. This limits choice somewhat and means that to get individuality you may have to pay higher prices. But by using appliqué to embellish your baby clothing, not only will your child have unique clothes which cannot be found in retail stores, you can also have the privilege of personalizing these items to suit your child’s taste and personality.

Appliqué is a simple way to create fabulous layered bold patterns and designs on your toddler’s clothes at a fraction of the cost of designer items. The process works much in the same way as children use construction paper, by cutting various shapes of colored paper and layering these to create different images. However in appliqué these colored papers are replaced by various pieces of printed fabrics. Cut the fabric into any shape you like and stitch it into place with colorful thread to create an individual and unique piece of clothing. You can also sew on large buttons or any other decorations that you feel work. Just make sure they are attached securely and cannot be easily pulled off.

If you want to take designing your own creations a little further some ideas for appliqué for special occasions include your child’s name or the name of their mother or father. Birthday party celebrations can be incorporated into a uniquely crafted clothing design using your child’s age. You can even go as far as to create a layered design of your baby’s favorite cartoon character or animal. Your toddler will have clothing which is truly unique and special.

Another great use for appliqué is to recycle! As we all know, toddler clothes are susceptible to becoming dirty, worn and damaged. Embellishment and appliqué is also a great way of covering stains or worn patches and bringing that old favorite back to life and at the same time giving your toddler something truly unique and special to wear.

Many graphic artists began their career by simply drawing on their home computer using the available free software tools. As their skills grew they found that they really enjoyed it, and began to purchase more complicated software. In fact, if you allow your child to download a bit of design software you might be surprised what they come up with.

Then, many graphic designers headed to a school or college for graphic design. This is one area in the career world where there are all types of positions. There are a combination of positions for marketing and design, there are strictly design jobs, and of course, there are a wide variety of computer graphic jobs such as video games, special effects, and others.

You can work a graphic arts design job as a freelancer, work in an office, or start your own company. Anyway you look at it you’re still going to need a network, and going to school for graphic arts is one of the ways to create one.

Web Design With Photoshop – 10 Top Tips

Designing your websites with photoshop is something that will greatly enhance the final result of your website. Not only will you know where your trying to end up with the finished site, but the sheer power of the tools on offer allows you to create breath-taking designs in a matter of minutes. However, it’s not always that easy, so I’m going to run through the basics for making a beautiful, clean design in photoshop.

1) Make sure you give yourself a decent canvas to start off with. Height will vary depending on how much example content you’re going to put on your page. I usually go for something around 900-1000 pixels, so that I’ve always got room for extra content if I want. It’s width that most people struggle with. Unless you are making an abnormally shaped site, always go for a width of about 960 px. I nearly always use a 960 grid on my site, so somewhere around there is a good place to start. Plus, you will hardly ever find that your customer is using a resolution of less than 1024×768, so you’re safe with that kind of width.

2) Okay – the text to use on your mock-up. It’s essential that for any areas of the site where live text will be displayed, you use a font that is browser-compatible. There’s no point using an impressive font and wowing your client with your photoshop file, if you can’t then go and convert that into XHTML/CSS coding without replacing it with images. Bear in mind that search engines will not be able to read text off images, so avoid using images for anything other than the logo, because it will all be a waste when it comes to SEO.

3) Keep it tidy. Use folders and layers to separate the various elements on the page, and name all of your layers. It may be boring, but trust me, it’s worth it. If you send it off for approval and the client doesn’t get back to you for two weeks, when it comes to slicing it up you’ll have no idea which layer is which unless you sorted it all out when you made it in the first place.

4) Use crisp anti-aliasing on all your text. You know, the drop down on the toolbar? It’s the closest to how the browser will eventually render it, so it’s a good idea to do it. Strong is too thick, and if you don’t use any it just looks appalling.

5) When it comes to sending off your design to the client, don’t save it at rubbish quality. Always go for jpg, at full quality. It will be a slightly bigger file, but it will make it look a lot better from the clients perspective.

6) Unless the client has given you specific text he would like to see on the page (I’m assuming they haven’t at this stage), use the lorem ipsum passage to fill in any paragraphs on your page, so that you don’t waste your time thinking up fake content to go in the gaps. However, do be sure to mention to the client that that’s what it is, and that you’re not expecting to put that on his final site!

7) Use blending options to your advantage! They can be so helpful in producing great effects on the various elements of your page, so long as you don’t use the defaults, and you don’t overuse them. You can only have so many drop shadows on a page before it becomes tiresome to look at. However, do have a play with them as they can be a very easy way to get great effects onto your site.

8) Add some nice effects to your images. Plain images can look so boring on a web page, so add a drop shadow, outer glow, inner glow or similar to your images to liven them up a bit.

9) When it comes to slicing up your images, use the ‘Save for Web’ feature. This way, the image will be optimised for the internet, avoiding ridiculous loading times and keeping the image size to a minimum without losing too much quality. Bear in mind that only pngs and gifs support transparency (with pngs being the only ones that support partial transparency), so if you have an image that overlays the rest of the page, or needs to have content behind it, make sure you save it in a compatible format.

10) Finally, always plan ahead. Make sure that what you’re designing in photoshop is actually possible to code up later on. It’s more embarrassing having to explain to a client why you are unable to produce what you previously showed them than it is not having such an amazing original design. Know you’re limitations, and don’t make life harder for yourself! You only want to have to do this once.

Well that’s it for this one. As long as you keep these ten tips in mind when working on your next photoshop design, your good to go.

Brand Design

Is your company struggling with its brand design? This article will help you decide if hiring an agency to help build your company’s image is the right step for your business. The purpose of brand design is to develop a personality and identity for a company, organization or even an individual. When you see a well-known logo, character or even tag line that represents a company, there is usually a brand design firm who can take credit for its creation.

The goal of a brand design strategy is to make people remember a company by establishing things that are familiar. Therefore once the strategy is established the brand needs to remain consistent throughout. Everything the company does needs to reflect the new brand strategy going forward.

Depending on the business, there are many factors to take into account when developing a brand including:

  • What is their product?
  • Who are their customers?
  • Do they provide a service?
  • What is their role in the community?
  • What is the benefit to the customer/community?

All of these things are taken into account when designing a brand. Once a strategy is developed, the brand design company will begin to establish new brand identity in many ways including logo design, color scheme, a tagline and more.

One thing that plays a key role in branding is called positioning. An individual’s branding strategy, if they are running for political office for instance, might include positioning them as an honest, caring member of their community. A company’s positioning might be as a leader in customer service or a provider of innovative solutions to everyday problems. Once this positioning has been determined, the brand design portfolio will be built around it.

Brand design tells a story about a company. It is something like a biography. If you look at the brand design portfolio of a major company, you will quickly be able to learn about them and their history. Through the use of branding, major corporations have built their reputations. Occasionally a company will refresh their brand identity in order to appear more modern or to show they have changed with the times. Sometimes this change is not welcome by their customers.

A major retailer recently changed its logo. For about 24 hours, their entire brand strategy changed to show this new modern logo. Customers and marketing experts agreed that they preferred the original logo and it was quickly decided that they would maintain their original brand image. This shows how impactful a company’s image can be. People are often emotionally attached to brands even without knowing it.

Branding is key in marketing success. In order for marketing to work, the target audience must immediately recognize who is talking to them (a company, an individual, etc.) and they must quickly hear the message. Notice the words immediate and quickly. When working to get the attention of an audience, it is important to do so in just a few seconds.

Brand development is not a simple process and it can take designers years to get good at it. Only then can they develop successful brand strategies for their clients. Working with a brand design agency who employs a team of highly creative designers as well as people who can implement the technological requirements of a strong brand is critical to obtaining a successful brand identity.
